VCH launches next phase of Health Vision Sea to Sky

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has launched the next phase of Health Vision Sea to Sky, a high-level planning process to help align local health-care services with the evolving health-care needs of the region.

As part of the planning process, VCH has developed a draft clinical services plan for the Sea to Sky region and community plans for Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. These plans consider historical data and trends, industry best practices, population projections, as well as input from the Sea to Sky community, the six First Nations in the Sea to Sky corridor and staff and medical staff.

Once finalized, these plans will provide a vision for future health-care services at a regional and community level. They will help inform the space required and the infrastructure recommendations set out in Health Vision Sea to Sky. Moving forward, VCH will work with the B.C. Government and other relevant partners to further coordinate, engage and advance the recommendations outlined in Health Vision Sea to Sky, as appropriate.

We are inviting members of the Sea to Sky region and interested partners to join an in-person or online engagement session.

During the sessions, we will share what we heard during previous engagement, present highlights from the draft Sea to Sky clinical services plan and community plans, as well as invite participants to ask questions and provide feedback. In addition to these sessions, VCH will also be engaging directly with staff and medical staff, local First Nations, as well as relevant community partners.

Community input is a valuable part of the planning process. Please participate in an opportunity to learn more and share your thoughts.

  • I've been looking for a family doctor in Squamish for 3 years now with no success. Is there a waiting list I could get on, or other alternatives?

Vienna Braux asked almost 2 years ago

    Hello, Vienna!

Thank you for submitting your question. We know and understand that it can be hard to find a doctor (primary care provider), and the Ministry of Health as well as VCH are proactively addressing this challenge. Government of BC has recently entered into a special agreement with the Doctors of BC – 2022 Physician Master Agreement, which is already contributing to positive change. The Divisions of Family Practice for the Sea to Sky corridor has a resource to help individuals find family physicians, and you can get more information here: https://divisionsbc.ca/sea-sky/for-residents/resources

Also, as part of the master planning process, we want to hear directly from residents and communities. Your input will inform future plans for the Sea to Sky corridor. Please stay involved in the project as we move from phase 1 to phase 2 and 3, and as we develop future plans for clinical services and for infrastructure.

    Thank you,

    Community Engagement Team
