Family Advisors - Contingency Management Committee
What are we doing?
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is launching a Contingency Management Program at our acute Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) site Segal Family Health Centre. This program intends to engage with people who have lived experience with stimulant* use and are currently admitted to inpatient psychiatry. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of life and increase participant engagement with health-care providers by using positive reinforcement. This project will take place over a two-year-period from July 2025 to July 2027. This project is part of the VCH Research Institutes' knowledge translation challenge.
*including cocaine, methamphetamine, and other amphetamine-type substances
How can you get involved?
We are looking for two (2) family members of individuals with lived experience of stimulant use to join a committee that includes health care professionals and people with lived experience. This committee is responsible for overseeing the Contingency Management Program.
Passionate family members can contribute their voice by:
- Sharing their personal experiences and perceptions of being a loved one of someone with a stimulant use disorder;
- Providing feedback on project content, implementation, and reports; and
- Participating in committee meetings.
Who should apply?
VCH is seeking family members of those with lived experience of stimulant use. If your loved one received care at Segal Family Health Centre, this would be an added benefit. An honorarium of 25$/hour will be provided to family advisors.
What is the attendance format?
Over the course of the two-year project, the committee will meet regularly in a hybrid format (in person with a virtual option) at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). Meeting dates/times will be determined based on the committee members availability. The committee meetings will be held during business hours.
During the initial launch, mid-point evaluation, and final stage of the program, meetings will occur weekly. Once the Contingency Management Program is fully underway, meetings will be held less frequently, on an as-needed basis.
How to participate in this opportunity?
Recruitment will be ongoing until the positions are filled. If you are interested in applying, please complete an application form below.
