Recruitment - Development of a sustainable planetary health menu for VGH patients

Consultation has concluded

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is leading an exciting project aimed at developing a unique inpatient menu that aligns with the planetary health diet outlined by the EAT-Lancet Commission and Canada's Dietary Guidelines. The implementation of this menu is scheduled for Early Fall 2023 at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). This initiative will not only enhance patients' hospital experience by providing them with more nutritious meals but also significantly reduce food-related greenhouse gas emissions and waste.

According to the EAT, a planetary health diet includes a higher proportion of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. Meat and dairy products are important parts of the diet, but in far smaller amounts than whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes.

We want to hear from you

Patient perspective is key to this initiative and your engagement will be strongly considered by the project team as they work towards implementation of a planetary health food menu at VGH. We are looking for two Community Engagement Advisory Network (CEAN) members to bring their past experience at VGH as an inpatient and contribute to the project with important elements to consider when developing a new food menu to the hospital.

This engagement will encourage dialogue and collaboration among the project team, patients, and other key partners in order to develop a shared understanding of the project's objectives, scope, and potential impacts, as well as an opportunity to share feedback and insights that can inform project planning, risk mitigation, and decision-making.

How you can get involved

If you are interested, please apply to join the roundtable by filling out the form below. Members will attend an in-person roundtable on August 2 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at VGH.
