Share your experience with us - Patient journey mapping for UPCCs

Update: November 9th, 2022

Thank you for your interest! We've had great interest and are now closing this engagement opportunity.

We acknowledge that our places of work and the Vancouver Coastal Health sites lie on the traditional homelands of the First Nation Communities of the Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai’xais, Líl̓wat, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), N’Quatqua, Nuxalk, Samahquam, shíshálh (Sechelt), Skatin, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Tla’amin, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), Wuikinuxv, and Xa’xtsa.

Want to help us improve experiences at Urgent Primary Care Centres?

What are we doing?
Urgent Primary Care Centres (UPCCs) provide an important service in the community by providing some of the health care services that are also provided in a hospital's emergency department. This gives the community an option to receive health care treatment there when their treatment needs are not otherwise considered an emergency, helping save the emergency department's capacity for emergency care.

Arriving at a UPCC for the first time may be confusing or stressful. This project aims to find creative ways to decrease stress and confusion for those visiting a UPCC.

To help, a project team at VCH created a UPCC “patient journey map” that illustrates the entire care experience in a brochure-style hand out. The purpose of this document is to visually explain the process of waiting in the UPCC, let patients know what to expect, explain why they may have to wait at different moments, and help patients, families, and caregivers understand the overall care journey. The goal is to make this hand out available to anyone who is waiting. It will also be offered in multiple languages.

How YOU can get INVOLVED
We need your help in providing the patient perspective on this “patient journey map” to ensure that it is meeting its purpose. We are hoping that those who have visited UPCC for care would register for a focus group discussion and help creatively build solutions to reduce stress and ensure quality care at the UPCCs.

How do I register?
