Recruitment - Wound Care Strategy Committee & Community Conversation Group

What are we doing?

The Wound Care Strategy team is actively working across Vancouver, Richmond, and the Coastal regions (both urban and rural) to standardize best practices in skin and wound care at VCH. A high number of individuals within VCH suffer from complex, preventable wounds that impact their normal capacity. The Wound Care Strategy team proposes four (4) strategies to standardize best practices in skin and wound care at VCH - check out the Terms of Reference for more information.

Who should apply?

We are specifically seeking patients, residents, clients, family members, and/or caregivers with lived/living experience of having a pressure injury, a surgical site complication (an incision that got infected and had to be re-opened) or a diabetic foot ulcer.

How you can get involved?

The Wound Care Strategy team is organizing two engagement opportunities and inviting patient partners to participate:

  1. Community Conversation Group (application is open): this community conversation group will be held on Tuesday, December 3 from 1 to 2:30 pm. at Vancouver General Hospital. Participants will be invited to share their experiences with wound care at VCH, answer questions about any gaps in their care, discuss prevention approaches, and suggest ways to optimize care and management.
  2. Steering Committee (application closed): the Wound Care Steering Committee is seeking two patient partners to join the committee for 30-minute virtual monthly meetings, starting in October. The committee oversees the Wound Care Strategy's progress and helps ensure its success. Patient partners will play a key role by providing valuable insights on care plans, performance measures, and how interventions affect patients/residents/clients and their support networks.

What is the deadline to apply for these engagement opportunities?

If you are interested in the Community Conversation Group, we invite you to complete the application form below.

If you are a patient, resident, client, family member, or caregiver who may need help with respite or childcare to join the conversation group or committee, or if you identify as a seldom-heard group—such as those facing discrimination or bias due to age, cultural background, location, or social class—please mention this in your application or interview. Selected participants may receive an honorarium of $25 per hour.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact ce@vch.ca. Thank you.

We would like to acknowledge that our places of work and the Vancouver Coastal Health facilities are located within the traditional territories of the Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai’xais, Lil’wat, Musqueam, N’Quatqua, Nuxalk, Samahquam, shíshálh, Skatin, Squamish, Tla’amin, Tsleil-Waututh, Wuikinuxv, and Xa’xtsa.
