Public advisor - PCN Clinical Counselling Working Group

Consultation has concluded

VCH is seeking a public advisor to support work clarifying the role of Mental Health & Substance Use clinical counsellors in primary care settings -- specifically Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

PCNs have long requested having mental health clinicians within their practice to support patients with mild to moderate mental health, anxiety, depression and/or substance use concerns. Clarifying their roles and standardizing their workflow and integration in these settings will help provide more consistent care to those who need it across PCNs.

The committee member will participate by advising on (for example):

  • What types of mental health supports are desired (e.g., anxiety related to a new diagnosis of a chronic condition, such as diabetes);
  • The most appropriate method of access (e.g., Zoom; telephone, in-person); and
  • A how often patients would be seeing these clinicians, among other considerations.

Vancouver Coastal Health is committed to delivering exceptional care to 1.2 million people, including the First Nations, Métis and Inuit in our region, where we acknowledge the traditional territories of the Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai'xais, Lil'wat, Musqueam, N'Quatqua, Nuxalk, Samahquam, shíshálh, Skatin, Squamish, Tla'amin, Tsleil-Waututh, Wuikinuxv, and Xa'xtsa.
