Recruitment, Patient Health Education Materials (PHEM) Committee
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) maintains a Patient Health Education Materials (PHEM) online resource catalogue with the goal of providing health education to patients and families.
The PHEM clinical team is seeking interest from public, patient and family members in providing input as they develop educational materials with the goal of making them more clear and understandable. Input from patient and family members are sought though online surveys about five to 15 times a month. Patient and family members who would like to participate in reviewing these materials are expected to provide their feedback within one week of receiving a PHEM online survey. The survey consists of (21 questions, 16 of which are yes or no).
A number of principles help guide the work of PHEM:
Health education materials meet the needs of the intended population.
Health education materials are accessible to consumers to support informed decision-making.
All health education materials adhere to the principles of Plain Language.
Relevance of the information and Interdisciplinary consultation across VCH prevents duplication.
VCH holds copyright for all original health education materials.
Health education materials are accurate according to present health practice.
Who can get involved
Ideally, VCH is seeking those who have an eye for making such materials more clear, understandable and relevant to patients and families and who are able to provide concise and constructive feedback to clinical staff about these materials.
