Patient Advisor - "Code Blue" training review for staff

Consultation has concluded

What are we doing?

VCH health care staff are trained on responding to a number of unforeseen care events. One such event is called a "Code Blue", which is announced at a health care facility, like a hospital, when someone is in need of immediate help from the Emergency Response Team (i.e. Code Blue Team).

The Mock Code Blue Simulation Program helps train healthcare staff in responding to a code blue event. This training program now has an opportunity to involve patient/family/public partners for their input.

Specifically the program is looking to improve the quality of the communication when the primary care team reports to the Code Blue Team upon their arrival. Because witnessing or hearing a mock code blue event can raise intense emotions for patients and visitors, the program team is looking for input on how to best communicate to those before and during a mock code blue training event so that everyone is aware of the exercise, its purpose, and how it may impact patient care during that period of time.

How YOU can get INVOLVED

The team is looking for at most two patient partners for their input. If you are interested, apply with your name in the form below, and an interview will be arranged to discuss your interest.

How long is the volunteer period?

The project team is expecting that the volunteer time will last approximately 2-3 months, with a commitment to a 1-2 hour meeting every 2 weeks. Meetings will primarily be held virtually. Also, the project team will ask patient partners to review and give input on potential patient brochures/information materials.

Who should register?

Ideally you would have personally experienced care at a hospital or were a family member of someone who was.

Due to the traumatic nature of a code blue event, if you had experienced a code blue event yourself, we kindly ask that you do not apply for your own mental wellbeing due to the risk of possibly re-living the event.

How do I register?

At the bottom of this page, there is a application form. Please open that form to register with your name and email address.

Deadline to register

Applications will be accepted until the opportunity is filled.
