What are we doing?

VCH is creating a Regional Patient and Family Advisory Council (RPFAC) because we recognize that patients, families, caregivers and staff are a valuable and critical resource. The RPFAC will help inform the work of the Patient Experience Program at VCH, which is under the Quality & Patient Safety Office. The purpose of the RPFAC is to create an environment where patients, families, caregivers, clinicians, and other VCH team members can collaborate and engage as partners and provide strategic advice on advancing a person centred approach to health, improving the patient experience and quality of care.

How YOU can get INVOLVED

VCH is seeking multiple energetic, community-minded patients, families and caregivers who can contribute their voices to the improvement of the patient experience and quality of care.

Who should apply?

This invitation is extended to anyone in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. Diversity is essential for the creation of the RPFAC and membership will include consideration of characteristics such as: healthcare experiences, geographic and cultural/ethnic backgrounds, age and generation, gender identity and sexuality, disabilities, country of origin, religious and spiritual perspective, socio-economic status, access to power, and experiences of oppression or trauma among many others.

What is the time commitment format?

  • Meetings are once a month, 1.5 hours, with ad hoc reading and emails between meetings
  • Membership term is two years
  • Location: Monthly meetings on Zoom or in person at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) (considering participant location and health considerations etc.)

When will the council begin meeting?

The council will begin meeting in September 2022.

How many people will be recruited for this opportunity?

8-10 patients/families/caregivers will be recruited.

How do I apply?

At the bottom of this page, you can begin your application.

What is the application process?

  • After you apply, your application will be reviewed by a team member.
  • Pending our recruitment needs, and considering our requirements for diversity, you may be asked to join an initial call with a team member to discuss your interest in the role.
  • After that initial call, you may be invited to a follow-up meet and greet with the Patient Experience team member, who will explain the role to you and will determine fit for the opportunity.
  • You will then receive an email letting you know whether your application is accepted.
  • Those whose applications are accepted will be asked to sign a privacy and confidentiality agreement prior to beginning their service on the council.

I have a question. Who can I ask?
