9. What is the budget for the Artwork?
Opportunities for Indigenous artwork range in size and scope, and may include but are not limited to individual framed art pieces, artwork throughout facilities such as interior painted wall murals and recurring motifs throughout the facility, large exterior wall murals, and carved welcoming figures.
We need to establish a budget that aligns with the project's goals and respects the artists and their work appropriately. To do this, it would be greatly beneficial to have a clear understanding of the budget available for this work.
Budget examples for different project sizes:
Small art project: a design as a digital graphic, small design only and then applied through a third party such as vinyl application, and single framed Indigenous artwork within the facility, budgets typically range from $500 to $20,000, depending on the complexity and scale of the piece. (Some small projects don't require First Nations engagement fees or art consultation).
Medium art project: painted wall murals, interior or exterior spaces, typically falls within the budget range of $30,000 to $70,000. The final cost can vary based on the size, materials used and location of the murals.
Large art project: developing a significant Indigenous-themed mural, for interior or exterior spaces, and including carved welcoming figures, typically begins at a budget of $60,000. The overall cost may increase depending on the project's specific requirements, artists’ experience, and size.
