Engagement report
From October 2022 to July 2023, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) conducted an engagement to inform the installation of artwork at a newly renovated space for the Downtown Eastside Youth Outreach Team on Powell Street in Vancouver.
To guide this project, VCH engaged with the three Host Nations—Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, and səlilwətaɬ Nations—as well as the program’s clients. Input received from the engagement directly informed artwork design and artist selection.
The murals, created by Diamond Point of Musqueam Nation, youth artist Ryan Hughes of Snuneymuxw Nation, and mentor artist Chris Sparrow of Musqueam Nation, honor the Host Nations and reflect the valuable feedback from youth participants on creating a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally safe space.
We thank all those who engaged with us on this project and are incredibly grateful for your time, insights and commitment to making Vancouver Coastal Health a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. We are pleased to share the What We Heard report and a one-page summary with you.
Thank you for your contribution!
