Advance Care Planning Facilitator Training – Become a Volunteer!

What we’re doing: VCH is building its roster of Advance Care Planning (ACP) volunteers to help deliver ACP information sessions in the community. To ensure volunteers are well-prepared, we ask that they complete formal ACP facilitator training offered by the BC Centre for Palliative Care.
Why we’re doing it: VCH has had wonderful volunteers supporting this work for years. As interest in ACP grows, we need to expand our capacity by welcoming new volunteers from the broader community. This ensures more people can access guidance on planning for their future health and personal care.
What is Advance Care Planning and why is it important? Advance Care Planning is the process of thinking about and sharing your wishes for future health and personal care in case you’re unable to speak for yourself. It helps families, caregivers, and health teams honor your values and choices. ACP reduces stress and uncertainty during critical times and fosters meaningful conversations in the community. Learn more here.
Includes: Guided learning, coaching, and access to a robust resource library
Next Steps: After completing the training, volunteers will attend a VCH orientation to learn about the volunteer role, expectations, and how past volunteers have successfully supported ACP sessions.
